Building a Vocal WorkoutJan 28, 2021
Want a done-for-you vocal workout designed specifically for beginners? I've got you covered - just head over to the Free Vocal Warm Up to get started.
Ah, the vocal workout. It's an interesting concept, really, but it does make sense. After all, a lot of learning to sing is about building muscle memory, strengthening muscles and gaining more control of the voice.
So a vocal workout is a way of controlling what you learn when you practice. If you have a specific goal, you can create a workout tailored to that goal - doing the workout often will help you achieve that goal. (Just like a personal trainer might design a workout for your fitness goals, we can make a workout for your singing goals!)
The key to this is knowing the exercises. There are a lot of vocal exercises out there, but if you know exactly what each of those exercises is training, it becomes a lot easier to put a workout together.
(And if you don't know what an exercise does, you can always ask someone.)
In the video above, I go through the entire process of creating a vocal workout, but here's a simplified version to help you get started;
- Decide what the goal is for your workout.
- Work out what exercises will help you achieve that goal
- Add your Warm Up and Pre-Warm Up to the beginning of your workout
- Write it all down
- Do your workout regularly
If you've got the right exercises there, doing your workout often will help you achieve your goal in no time.
